The Charlotte Piano Teachers Forum grew out of a Charlotte Music Club workshop conducted by Dr. Robert Pace in September, 1953. A Planning Committee was formed to draw up plans for a new piano teacher's organization. In October of the same year, the first Forum meeting was held in the auditorium at Case Brothers Piano Company with twenty-one members. Monthly meetings occurred from October to May. Programs included panel discussions, guest speakers, guest artists, and members of the Forum. One of the first projects of the Forum was to provide a suitable register to help parents locate qualified piano teachers in their area. An annual workshop was held every summer with well known clinicians. During the first administration, a scholarship was planned and put into effect the following year. A circultaing library was formed, meetings were extended from September to May, and student recitals and auditions were later established. The goal of the Forum was to achieve higher standards in teaching and to find ways to stimulate greater interest in music among piano students. Today, the Forum has approximately 120 members.
