Michael Lehtinen has been on the faculty of Southern Park Music School since 1995 and became the Director in 2006. He earned the Bachelor of Music from Oberlin Conservatory and the Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts from the Eastman School of Music.
Dr. Michael, as his students call him, has taught piano privately for over 30 years and has had competition winners in the Charlotte Piano Teachers Forum, the Charlotte Symphony Young Artist Competition and the Charlotte Civic Orchestra Concerto competition.
In addition to teaching highly gifted and motivated students, Michael has also instituted a Musikgarten program at Southern Park Music School for young children ages newborn to age 9. Research is showing how early music training can stimulate learning in mathematics, language, balance, and listening, to name a few.
