We’d be delighted to have you as a member of the Charlotte Piano Teachers Fourm!

Please ensure you meet all of the requirements for your desired Membership tier below before applying.

Those wishing to be Professional, Associate, or General members can apply here.

Students who are interested in becoming a member of CPTF will fill out the a student application instead.

Membership Tiers & Requirements

  • You must have at least one (1) of the following:

    • A degree in music with piano major (performance or pedagogy) from an accredited school or department of music.

    • A degree in music without piano major from an accredited school or department of music with all of the following course credits:

      • 3 years college level keyboard instruction.

      • 2 years college level music theory.

      • 1 year college level piano pedagogy OR 10 years of teaching experience.

    • Certificate (Standard, Experience, Professional Advancement, College Faculty, Honorary, Emeritus, or Certificate of Merit)

      • Received from the North Carolina Music Teachers’ Association and/or NCMTA Certification.

    • A college degree (not in music) from an accredited college or university including the following courses:

      • 3 years of college-level keyboard instruction (piano, organ or other).

      • 2 years of college-level music theory, and

      • 1 year of college-level piano pedagogy OR 10 years of teaching experience, and/or NCMTA Certification.

  • You may or may not have attained a college degree; however, you must have fulfilled all of the following requirements:

    • 2 years of college-level keyboard instruction (piano, organ, or other)

    • 1 year of college-level music theory.

    • 1 year of college-level piano pedagogy OR ten years of teaching experience

  • None of these fit? No worries!

    Applicants who don’t meet other requirements may apply as General Members.

    A General Member is a piano teacher who is working toward the goal of becoming an Associate or Professional member of the Forum. The Forum encourages General Members to attain Associate or Professional membership through NCMTA certification or other available opportunities.

  • A Student member may be a piano teacher or may be working toward becoming a piano teacher.

    The applicant must be between 18-25 years of age. Proof of age must be submitted with the membership application. The dues and membership application fee will be 50% off for Students who apply.
