Piedmont Unitarian Universalist Church Pianist/Accompanist
Opening: March 2022
The Piedmont Unitarian Universalist Church is seeking a part-time Pianist/ Accompanist.
The Pianist/Accompanist serves the church by working with the Minister(s) to select and play the music for worship and accompany special groups of musicians.
This position is part time and contracted on a month-to-month basis.
Terms of Employment:
Regular, part-time work based on a month-to-month term with an average of 3-5 hours per week.
Any leave time will be made by mutual agreement with the Ministers.
Compensation of $135.00 – $150.00 per Sunday service.
This position is exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act (29 U.S. Code, Chapter 8, sections 201-219).
Employment Contract:
The selected candidate will be granted a month-to-month contract. The contract may be extended or amended by mutual agreement of the parties or terminated for cause.
Minimum Qualifications:
College undergraduate or graduate, preferably with a degree in music or no less than 1 year experience in a similar capacity to this position.
Ability to play in a variety of musical styles
Understanding of music composition, transposition and arranging
Sight-reading of music and open score reading
Experience working with a wide variety of individuals with varying degrees of music experience and ability
Some experience in live streaming and recording of music for online services
Preferred Attributes:
Good written and verbal communication skills

Excellent people skills, patience, and a positive attitude
Ability to work effectively and respectfully with a wide variety and diversity of members, volunteers, and the public
Demonstrated musical talent

Pianist and Accompanist Duties:
Serve as pianist/accompanist at Sunday worship service on a weekly basis
Piano practice and/or rehearsal with guest musicians, usually prior to Sunday service
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
Accompanies congregational singing at worship services once they resume and as defined by our COVID safety protocol.
Other Professional Opportunities:
Discretionary performance by invitation to perform in rites of passage, i.e.: Celebration of Life services, weddings, and other events. Accompanist charges for Rites of Passage and other events are set prior to the ceremony and are the exclusive property of the accompanist.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
Work normally performed in a typical church musical environment.
