PIANODROME RECITALS
PIANODROME COMES TO CHARLOTTE

Charlotte SHOUT!, presented by Atrium Health and Bank of America, returns to Uptown Charlotte
March 31-April 16, 2023. This multi-week festival celebrates Charlotte's creativity and innovation
through art, music, food, and ideas. The four key pillars of Art, Food, Music, and Ideas highlight the
extraordinary talents of internationally and locally acclaimed artists, dancers, musicians, poets,
storytellers, photographers, chefs and thought leaders.
CPTF has been specifically invited to partner with the festival as representatives of piano education in our
city, specifically by providing daily content in the PianoDrome.
What is a PianoDrome? A group from Edinburgh, Scotland creates unique playable, community-centered
sculptures made entirely from otherwise disused pianos. As part of a large network of makers, artists,
performers and volunteers, they design, build and install, then utilize the created spaces for programs,
events, and educational experiences.
Charlotte SHOUT invited PianoDrome to create one of their art installations. Right now, they are in a
warehouse in Fort Mill creating a one-of-a-kind small venue built entirely out of old pianos! This art
installation will be placed INSIDE of the beautiful Grace AME Zion Church (on the Historic Registry) in
uptown Charlotte and will be open to the public through the course of the Festival.
CPTF members have been invited to use this space, free of charge, in any creative way we see fit.
Individual teachers can reserve space for recitals, master classes, field trips, even teach your lessons!
There will be three playable pianos incorporated into the structure PLUS a baby grand performance
instrument that will be in the center of the space. Four keyboards total, if you’d like to host an ensemble
performance.
